Erik & Christine

Erik and Christine met me at Valley Forge Park for their engagement session last weekend. Valley Forge is by far one of the most requested locations for fall sessions…with good reason. The park is gorgeous, and there are SO many amazing spots for photos.

Some people are instantly comfortable in front of the camera, others need some time to warm up. Erik and Christine were one of those “instant” couples. The two of them easily forgot I was there, allowing for some great images. Christine brought along a prop to use for the ‘save the date’ pictures, but we’ll keep those photos a surprise. They also brought along 2 crystal glasses they got as an engagement present, which they filled with wine and scotch to incorporate into some of the photos. Such a cute idea!

I will be photographing Erik and Christine’s wedding in November 2012 and I am very much looking forward to it!

Love Family {Valley Forge Family Photographer}

Between the perfect weather, and all of the kids being in a good mood, I seriously lucked out with this session. I was nervous going into the session because A) I am good friends with Gina and there is always extra pressure when I’m photographing someone I’m close with; and B) All of her kids know me, and although you think that would make the session easier, it means they are more comfortable telling me they want no part of having their pictures taken. Luckily for me, they were complete angels that day! Gina brought along her sister, Megan, to help with the little ones during group shots (SUCH a good call), so I have to thank her for all of her help!

This was the first time Rich and Gina had professional family photos taken & I’m so glad they asked me! Enjoy your previews!

Tim & Laura {Chester County Wedding Photographer}

Tim and Laura got married on September 17th at Springton Manor Farm in Glenmoore, PA. I knew immediately when I met the two (well…three) of them back in March that I was going to love everything about this wedding. To top it off, Springton Manor Farm is one of my favorite locations in the area!

It was supposed to rain on their big day, but we got lucky and it only drizzled for about 30 minutes while the girls were getting ready. Laura was relaxed and she entrusted me by encouraging photo ideas I had. She even let me hang her dress in a tree which turned out to be one of my favorite shots. Tim, Laura, and the entire wedding party were so easy to work with, and I enjoyed every minute of their big day. Aside from the great people and amazing details, my favorite thing about their wedding was…… I didn’t have to use my flash even once the entire day. That makes this natural light photographer happy!

Lovely Locks and Touch of Blush did an outstanding job (as always) on the girls hair and makeup. I always look forward to working with them!!

Congratulations again you guys! I’ll be seeing you again soon for your family session!

 Tips for surviving the busy holiday season

- Have a plan & know your limit!

- Start holiday sessions early

 - Inform your clients that now is a good time to start booking sessions – before the weather gets drastically cold & hectic

 - Inform your clients of deadlines – for gift prints, custom cards, etc.

 - Decide how many sessions that you can realistically shoot, edit, and design for this holiday session – don’t overbook!

 - Consider outsourcing this holiday – editing, or custom card design

 - Consider hiring a temporary assistant – to help with packaging, setting up displays, and other jobs that don’t require your knowledge. A little help can go a long ways!

 - If holiday sessions haven’t been successful in the past consider sending out a newsletter to clients, or offering special discounts or packages.

 - Encourage families to dress in everyday attire, rather than festive Christmas wear – that way you can sell them a large canvas and other prints, rather than just Christmas cards. Show them examples of Christmas cards so that they understand this concept. Also this can encourage them to buy gift prints.

 - Be organized (The Easy Accounting Solution can help you with all of these organization points!)

 - Managing all of these sessions effectively will help you be less stressed and more successful

 - Update client information

 - Use your calendar

 - Know your photo lab deadlines for holiday orders

 - Know any other deadlines for business’s you don’t normally work with

 - Keep up with client appointments and deadlines

 - Make sure you have enough packaging materials, especially if you are considering using holiday colors

 - Account for all payments – deposits, sitting fees, prints, etc. Make sure you are paid in full!

 - Keep track of mileage if you travel to locations for shoots (this is a tax deduction)

 - This is the perfect time to invest in new props or equipment if you need any tax deductions

Louie & Laura

THIS will always be what I picture when I think of Laura…

That’s Laura and I in 8th grade (she’s on the right) and it completely sums up our friendship. I could carry on about how long we’ve been friends, what beautiful people her parents are for providing a safe haven for me through rough times, or just how happy I am for her that she is GETTING MARRIED, but I won’t :)

I’ll just let you know that I was pee-my-pants excited when she said she’d be coming to visit from Pittsburgh and wanted to do an engagement session. Our morning started with coffee at her parents, then we made our way to West Chester. I could have spent the whole afternoon photographing them, but Louie had to work that night, so they had to pack up and head back to Pittsburgh. The session was a blast and I thank Louie for putting up with Laura’s and my jokes/nonsense that no one else understands! Congratulations you guys!!
